Shelter for Every Creature
Rama Raksha Stotram 19
Meaning · English
Shelter for every living being, finest of all who bear the bow, ending the demon clans: may these two, best of Raghu's line, protect us.
The two brothers are given four titles, then asked for one thing. They are shelter for every living creature, not for one kind alone. They are the best of all who carry a bow. They bring an end to the clans of demons who harm others. They are the finest sons of Raghu's line, the royal house they come from. The titles move from who they protect, to their skill, to what they have done, to their family. The request at the end is short: keep us safe.
A lifeguard's chair stands above a crowded beach. Anyone in the water can wave to it: a child, a stranger, someone who barely swims. The person in that chair is also the strongest swimmer there. Open to everyone and able to reach anyone, in one seat. The brothers are praised as both at once.
