Beyond the Horse Sacrifice
Rama Raksha Stotram 24
Meaning · English
My devotee who recites these every day with faith gains merit greater than the horse sacrifice. Of this there is no doubt.
"These" are the names just recited. The promise comes with two conditions. The recitation happens daily, and it is done with faith, which means trusting the words rather than saying them by rote. The speaker calls such a person "my devotee." The reward is merit, the store of good that a person's actions lay up. The measure is the horse sacrifice, the grandest rite a king could sponsor. A few names said each day outweigh it, and the last words rule out doubt.
A coin dropped into a jar every morning. No single coin matters much, and nobody notices the jar on the shelf. Yet over the years it holds more than one lavish payment made once. The names are the coins, faith is the hand that keeps dropping them, and the horse sacrifice is the lavish payment.
