One Bow, Many Titles

Rama Raksha Stotram 27

Meaning · English

To Rama, to Ramabhadra, to Ramachandra, to the one who orders all things; to the lord of the Raghus, to the protector, to Sita's husband: I bow.

Every title is addressed to him, and one bow at the end gathers them all. Ramabhadra adds the sense of good and gentle. Ramachandra means Rama like the moon, cool and pleasant to look at. He is also called the one who sets the world in order. Then come three ways he stands toward others: head of Raghu's family, protector of whoever comes to him, and Sita's husband. Together the words make one long greeting, given with folded hands.

Think of an envelope addressed in several lines: a name, a house, a street, a town. Each line narrows the search, and still the letter goes to one door and carries one stamp. The titles work the same way. Each adds a detail of who Rama is, and the single bow at the end is the stamp that sends them all to him.
