Meaning · English
Rama, jewel of kings, ever wins. I worship him; he felled the night-army. To him, a bow. None stands beyond him. I am his servant. Let my mind melt into him. Rama, lift me.
Every phrase leans on the same name, bent a different way each time. Rama wins. I worship Rama. By Rama the army fell. To Rama, a bow. From Rama, nothing higher. Of Rama, I am the servant. In Rama, my mind. And at the end, Rama simply called out. Those are the eight forms a Sanskrit noun can take. The night-prowlers are the demon host he defeated. The lines move from praising a king to a plain personal request: let my mind dissolve in him, and pull me out.
Picture a child with a favourite toy, turning it over in both hands, looking at the top, the bottom, each side, then pressing it to their chest. The turning is the eight grammatical forms, the name seen from every angle. The pressing close is the last line, where praise stops and the singer just asks to be held.
