Wherever faith arises, in an image or in any other support for worship, there one should worship me. I am the Self of all, present in every being and in one's own heart. Whoever worships me in this way, by the paths of ritual action, Vedic and Tantric alike, receives from me, on both sides, the fulfilment he longs for.

Three words carry the teaching. Arca means an image or form of worship, from arc, to honour. Sarvatma means the Self of all: sarva is all, atman is the self within. Kriyayoga means the yoga of action, the path of doing worship with the hands: offering, bathing, lighting, reciting. Krishna tells Uddhava that worship does not have to wait for the right place. Faith is the sign. Wherever it rises, in an image, a flame or anything else set apart for worship, that is where to worship him. The reason he gives is that he is the Self of all, standing in every being and in the worshipper's own heart. So no support is far from him, and none is the only one. Next he sums up the whole practice. A person who worships by these action-paths, whether the Vedic or the Tantric, receives from him the fulfilment he longs for. The commentators differ on exactly what the 'both sides' of that fulfilment are. The point is that the giver is Krishna himself, not the ritual. The teaching answers a worry a newcomer would have: which form is the correct one. It asks the listener to begin where faith already is, and to keep the other beings in mind as his dwelling too.

One sun hangs in the sky, yet it shows up in a brass pot of water, a puddle on the road and a window across the street. Each holds the whole bright disc. The sun is the Self of all, and wherever faith makes a clear surface, it appears there.

1. Choose one place in your home where your faith already rests: a picture, a small shelf, a window with morning light. 2. Today, stand there for one minute. Light a lamp or place a single flower, and say quietly that you offer it to Krishna. 3. Before you leave, look once at the next person you meet, or think of one, and remember the verse says he dwells in every being. 4. Notice whether the minute felt close or far, and do it again tomorrow at the same time.

A grandmother has just moved to a rented flat in a new city. There is no temple nearby and no proper shrine, only a bare shelf and a box of her things. She wonders whether prayer can even begin until everything is arranged as it was back home. In this teaching, Krishna says worship begins wherever faith arises. She does not wait. She sets a small picture on the shelf, lights a lamp, and offers a flower from the market. Then she sits for a minute. The flat starts to feel lived in, because one corner now has a purpose and a daily time. Ordinary experience confirms that a small, repeated act in a fixed place steadies a person in an unsettled time. The teaching adds something further: Krishna is the Self of all beings, so she may see him also in the neighbour at the stairs. It does not promise that the loneliness will end, that the move will go well, or that worry about health or money will fade. Those still need people, practical help and, where needed, a doctor.
