Meaning · English
With a mere hum you scattered Smoke-Eye's hundreds, dried up Blood-Seed's sprouting vine, and sated the spirits at Shumbha and Nishumbha's war. Victory, slayer of Mahishasura, lovely-haired daughter of the mountain.
Three enemies are named, one after another, and each is handled differently. Smoke-Eye came with hundreds behind him, and she drove them off with nothing but a sound from her own throat, a low hum. Blood-Seed's name says what he was: whatever came from him grew again, like a vine that keeps spreading. She dried it out in battle so nothing more could grow. Then came the great war with the brothers Shumbha and Nishumbha, a fight so large that it fed the spirits of the battlefield.
Picture a temple courtyard full of pigeons. Someone claps once, and the whole flock lifts off the stones at the same moment. Nobody had to chase a single bird. That is the hum. Smoke-Eye arrived with hundreds of followers, and one sound from her was enough to empty the field.
