Meaning · English

Turn the body round and round, fast, until you fall to the ground. When the shaking power comes to rest, the highest state is born.

Three words carry the verse. Kshobha is shaking, agitation, the churning of something disturbed. Shakti is power or force, so kshobha-shakti is the force of the shaking itself. Dasha is a state or condition, and para means highest, beyond. The verse names two states: the shaken one and the one beyond it. The clauses go in order. You turn the body round and round. You do it quickly. You keep going until you fall to the ground. The fall ends the turning, and the force of the shaking comes to rest. At that rest the highest state is born. The verse says nothing is added. The state comes as the shaking stops. The doorway is an ordinary moment opened from inside. Everyone knows the moment after dizziness, when the body has stopped and the motion has not yet drained away. Bhairava treats that moment as the place to look. The agitation is at its loudest, then it ends, and what is left was there all along beneath it. The text's logic is that the highest state is not made. It is what remains when the shaking has no more force.

1. Find a clear, open space with soft ground, and stand with nothing within reach of your arms. 2. Begin turning on the spot, round and round. Let the speed rise until it is fast. 3. Keep turning until the body goes down to the ground. Do not fight the fall. 4. Lie or sit where you land. Let the shaking run out on its own, without steering it. 5. Watch the moment the shaking comes to rest. Stay with what is there when it has stopped. 6. When the body feels steady again, stop. If you are unwell or unsteady, do not do this.

The tradition's account: the mind lives by movement. Turning drives that movement to its limit, the fall cuts it off, and when the shaking power rests, nothing is left for the mind to hold. The support drops away and awareness stays, knowing itself. That is the text's teaching, not a claim about the body. What a sitter tends to notice: the first turns feel silly or frightening, and the mind is busy managing balance. Then speed takes over and thoughts thin out. The fall comes, and with it dizziness, a pounding chest, a tilting room. The usual mistake is to start thinking about the dizziness, or to get up quickly to stop it. The small sign that it is working is a brief gap where the body has stopped, the motion is draining out, and attention has no story attached. It is often short. Fear of falling makes people stop early or turn timidly, and then there is little shaking to rest.
