A Sapphire Necklace
Kanakadhara Stotram 4
Meaning · English
On Madhu's slayer's chest, where his jewel rests, it shines like a sapphire necklace. May the lotus-dweller's string of glances, which grants even the Lord's wishes, bring me good.
Lakshmi keeps looking at Vishnu's chest, so often that her glances line up into a string. That string lies beside the famous jewel he already wears, and it shines there like a necklace of deep blue gems. Then comes the surprising part. These glances grant wishes, and not only for people like us: they grant what even the Lord himself desires. The poet asks that this same string of looks bring good things to him as well.
Picture a strand of dark blue glass beads laid across a dark blue silk cloth. From a distance you barely see them. Then the light shifts and a line of small gleams shows up across the silk. Her glances rest on his dark chest the same way: dark on dark, seen as a row of shine.
