विश्वामरेन्द्रपदविभ्रमदानदक्षम् आनन्दहेतुरधिकं मुरविद्विषोऽपि । ईषन्निषीदतु मयि क्षणमीक्षणार्धम् इन्दीवरोदरसहोदरमिन्दिरायाः

May Indira's half-glance, the blue of a lotus's heart, which gives away heaven's throne at play and delights even Mura's foe, settle on me a little, for a moment.
Indira is another name for Lakshmi, and Mura's foe is Vishnu. Her glance does two things. It can hand someone the throne of Indra, king of the gods, and it does this almost as play, a flicker rather than an effort. It also delights Vishnu more than anything else, though he already lacks nothing. Its color is the deep blue inside a lotus. Set against all that power, the request is tiny: half a glance, resting lightly, for one moment, on me.
A sunbeam crosses a kitchen floor in the afternoon. It lights a single tile for a few seconds, and that tile goes warm. The sun loses nothing by it and does not slow down. The prayer asks for that much: the edge of a glance that can crown kings, passing over one small spot long enough to warm it.

इन्दिरा की वह आधी चितवन, जो कमल के हृदय जैसी नीली है, जो खेल-खेल में स्वर्ग का सिंहासन दे देती है और मुर के शत्रु को भी आनंदित करती है, मुझ पर थोड़ी-सी, एक पल के लिए ठहर जाए।
इन्दिरा लक्ष्मी का ही दूसरा नाम है, और मुर के शत्रु विष्णु हैं। उनकी चितवन दो काम करती है। वह किसी को देवताओं के राजा इन्द्र का सिंहासन सौंप सकती है, और यह लगभग खेल की तरह करती है, प्रयास से नहीं, बस एक झिलमिलाहट भर से। वह विष्णु को भी सबसे अधिक आनंद देती है, जबकि उन्हें पहले से किसी बात की कमी नहीं। उसका रंग कमल के भीतर का गहरा नीला है। इतनी शक्ति के सामने याचना बहुत छोटी है: आधी चितवन, हल्के से ठहरी हुई, एक पल के लिए, मुझ पर।
