Rain for a Drooping Fledgling
Kanakadhara Stotram 9

Meaning · English
May the rain-bearing eyes of Narayana's beloved, pushed by mercy's wind, drive my heat of wrongdoing far away for a long while and pour wealth on me, a drooping, penniless fledgling.
The speaker pictures her eyes as a rain cloud and compassion as the wind that moves it. A cloud gives nothing until wind brings it overhead, so he asks for mercy to carry her gaze his way. He calls himself a young bird with nothing at all, sitting dejected. The heat he is wilting under is a summer made by his own bad deeds. He asks for two things: push that heat far off, for a long while, and let a stream of wealth fall on him.
Picture a potted plant left on a sunny windowsill for weeks, the soil cracked and pulling away from the rim. It cannot walk to the tap. Someone has to notice it and tip a glass of water in. The speaker sees himself the same way, unable to fetch relief, waiting on her to be moved to give.
