Meaning · English
Bow to the Veda, who yields the fruit of good deeds; to Delight, sea of lovely virtues; to Power, at home in the lotus; to Nourishment, dear to the Supreme One.
There are four bows, each to Lakshmi under a different name, and each name comes paired with what she does. She is the Veda, the sacred word, and the good results of right action are born from her. She is Delight, a whole sea of qualities worth loving. She is Power, yet her home is a soft lotus of a hundred petals. She is Nourishment, the one who makes things grow, and she is the beloved of Vishnu, the highest of beings.
At a family wedding, one woman is greeted four ways in an hour. A nephew calls her auntie, a student calls her teacher, a neighbour calls her by her first name, and her son calls her mother. Every greeting is true, and each guest knows a different side of the same person. Veda, Delight, Power and Nourishment are four such greetings to one Lakshmi.
