Golden Throne, Bow-Bearer's Beloved
Kanakadhara Stotram 13
Meaning · English
Honour to her throned on a golden lotus. Honour to the earth's queen. Honour to her, all mercy toward gods and the rest. Honour to the bow-bearer's beloved.
Four greetings, each naming a different side of her. First, where she sits: a lotus made of gold, so even her seat carries both beauty and wealth. Second, what she holds: the whole round of the earth, in her keeping as its queen. Third, what she is like inside: given over to mercy, for the gods first and for everyone after them. Last, whom she belongs with: Vishnu, named here only by the bow he carries.
Picture an envelope addressed with care: a name, a house, a street, a town. Each line finds the same person from a different side, and together they leave no doubt where the letter goes. The four greetings work the same way. Her seat, her realm, her nature and her husband are four lines that all arrive at her.
