Meaning · English

You who live in the lotus, lotus in hand, bright in the whitest cloth, with fragrance and garland; Blessed Lady, Hari's beloved, lovely, who makes three worlds prosper: be kind to me.

The singer stops to look at her before asking anything. She lives in a lotus and holds one in her hand. Her clothes are the whitest white, and she carries the scent of perfume and fresh flower garlands. Then come the names that say who she is: the blessed one, the one Hari loves, the one who pleases the heart. She makes all three worlds flourish. Only after all that does the request come, and it is short: be pleased with me.

Think of an old letter that opens with a full page naming the person it is written to: where they live, what they wear, whom they are dear to, what good they have done. The request sits in the last line, a few words long. The long greeting is the singer's attention; the short line is the whole ask.
