The Source of Life

Prashna Upanishad 2.7

Meaning · English

You move within the womb as the creator of offspring and are born there. Living beings provide their energy to you, the vital breath, who dwells with the other breaths, the senses.

The vital breath is the force that drives reproduction and growth inside the womb. It acts as the biological architect that allows a new life to form and reappear in the world. Every living creature depends on this energy to exist, effectively paying a tax of their own vitality back to the source that sustains their physical functions and sensory organs.

A battery powering a handheld device. The device performs various tasks and uses light or sound, but every action draws from the single cell. This is like the vital breath providing the necessary power for the body's organs and the process of birth to function.
