Nature and Sustenance

Prashna Upanishad 2.10

Meaning · English

When you send down the rain, your living creatures are filled with joy, knowing that they will have all the food they need.

The life force is described here as the source of weather and biological survival. By controlling the rain, it provides the basic ingredients for food. The creatures mentioned are the children of this energy. Their happiness is a direct result of the physical security provided by the rain, which ensures that hunger is satisfied across the natural world.

A dry garden suddenly soaking up a summer thunderstorm. The soil turns dark and the wilted leaves lift. This is like the life force providing rain; it is the physical trigger that turns desperation into the certainty of growth and nourishment.
