The Inner Vitality

Prashna Upanishad 2.12

Meaning · English

Make auspicious that form of yours which is established in speech, in the ear, and in the eye, and which flows continuously through the mind; do not depart.

The speaker addresses the life force directly and describes its own form as something that dwells in speech, the ear, the eye, and the mind. This presence is what stabilizes the eyes, ears, and voice. The prayer asks the life force to make that form of itself auspicious. The plea not to go away asks the life force not to depart from the body, since its departure is death.

Think of electricity running through a house. You do not see the current, but it is what allows the lights to shine and the speakers to play. This energy is like the power grid for the human body, fueling every sense and thought to keep the system functioning.
