Fullness Beyond Thought
Vijnana Bhairava 15
Meaning · English
The state of Bhairava is bliss known from within. Thought-constructs do not reach it. Its form is full. That state is Bhairavi, the goddess, and she is of Bhairava's own nature.
Three words carry it. Anubhava is experience, a direct meeting with something, not a report about it. Here it is turned inward: the self known from inside. Vikalpa is a thought-construct, the mind cutting what is there into options, labels and this-versus-that. The verse says this state lies where vikalpa does not reach. Bharita means filled. Nothing in the state is missing, so nothing is reached for. Now the clauses in order. The state is bliss, and that bliss is the self known directly. Its range is free of thought-constructs, so it is not an idea you hold or a picture you build. Its form is full, with no gap that needs closing. Then the verse names it: this state is Bhairavi. She is not a second person standing beside Bhairava. She is his own nature, named as the goddess. The ordinary moment becomes a doorway because that moment is already a direct experience. Before the mind labels it, what is present is just being aware, and the text points there rather than to some other place.
Someone describes the taste of sugar for an hour: sweet, white, grainy, pleasant. You know the words and still lack the taste. Then a grain touches your tongue and the description is not needed. The verse points to that second kind of knowing, tasted directly, with no account in between.
