Those who listen to these stories with respect, sing them, and rejoice when others sing them, who hold me as their highest aim and have faith, find devotion to me. For a good person who has found devotion, what else is left to be gained? It is devotion to me, whose qualities have no end, who am Brahman, and whose very nature is the experience of joy.

Krishna names three ways of taking in his stories: shravana (hearing), gana (singing), and anumodana (delighting in another's telling). Each is done with adara, respect, and with shraddha, a settled trust. The listener is also matpara, which means I am the highest aim, not one aim among many. Bhakti is loving devotion, from bhaj, to share in. Its fruit is a share in what is loved, not a reward handed over afterward. Then comes a question: for one who has found bhakti, what remains? The commentators read it as a question with one answer. Nothing remains. Krishna gives the reason in the last line. The one loved is anantaguna, with endless qualities, so the heart never exhausts him. He is Brahman, the whole ground of things. His nature is ananda-anubhava, the experience of joy itself. A heart resting there has no gap that another pursuit must fill. This follows Pururavas, who chased one longing until it emptied his life. Krishna now says what a longing can rest in without being used up. The stories are the way in, and the company of good people is where they are heard.

A traveller crossing hot country tries one roadside stall after another, always thirsty. Then he reaches a spring and drinks until he is done. He stops scanning the road for the next stall. Devotion works like that spring. It ends the restless search because it finally meets the thirst.

1. Choose one short story or name of Krishna you already know, and pick a fixed time today, perhaps after dinner. 2. Say it aloud or sing it quietly for five minutes, slowly, with no phone near you. 3. Notice, when you finish, whether the usual pull toward your restless habit is quieter, even slightly. 4. This week, tell the story to one person, or listen while someone else tells it.

A mother stands at the stove, a phone propped against the dal tin, on her fourth hour of the week scrolling a shopping app. She does not need anything. Something in her keeps asking for one more look. Krishna's teaching begins with that restlessness, a want that is never filled by what it grabs. The verse places the answer in what is heard, sung and enjoyed with others, with respect and trust. In her moment, that means putting the phone face down and letting a story, a bhajan or a voice fill the kitchen for a few minutes. Her attention is then held by something, not pulled around by it. Ordinary experience bears out that what we return to again and again gains a hold on us. The verse does not promise the pull will vanish after one evening. Nor does it replace a doctor or counsellor when a habit has taken over sleep, money or relationships.
