The Foundation of All

Prashna Upanishad 4.7

Meaning · English

Just as birds settle into a tree for the night, in this same way, everything in existence finds its place within the Supreme Self.

The physical and mental world does not exist independently. Everything we experience is anchored in a single source called the Atman. While the many parts of life seem separate and active, they eventually return to and depend upon this core reality. It is the silent background that supports every movement and every object, acting as the necessary base for everything else to exist.

Think of a large sponge soaked in water. You can see the different holes and fibers of the sponge, but every single part is saturated by the water. The water is the hidden foundation that fills every gap and supports the entire structure of the sponge from within.
