Krishna tells Uddhava: whoever studies this teaching, which is pure, supreme and clean, is purified each day, for it shows me by the lamp of knowledge. And the person who listens to it steadily, with faith and a mind that does not wander, offering supreme devotion to me, is not bound by his actions.

Two verses close the teaching with a promise, one for the reader and one for the listener. Three words carry them. Pavitra means purifying, that which makes clean what it touches. Jnana-dipa is the lamp of knowledge: the teaching is a light, and what it lights up is Krishna himself. Bhakti is loving devotion, from bhaj, to share in. Krishna tells Uddhava that anyone who studies this teaching is cleansed a little every day, because it lets him see Krishna. Then he turns to the hearer. Whoever listens daily, with shraddha (trust), and with an undistracted mind, while giving his deepest devotion to Krishna, is not bound by his deeds. Bondage here means the way action ties a person to its results and to rebirth. Krishna gives this at the very end because Uddhava will leave for Badari, and the teaching has to travel without Krishna beside it. It travels by being read and heard. Sridhara Svami reads the second verse as saying that devotion joined to hearing is what loosens the grip of karma. What it asks is regularity, trust and attention, with the heart turned toward Krishna while the ears listen.

A lamp carried into a dusty room does not clean the floor by itself, yet each evening its light shows where the dust lies and who else is in the room. The teaching is that lamp, and Krishna is the one it lets the reader see.

1. Choose one fixed time today, such as after dinner or before sleep, and read or listen to a few lines of this teaching for five minutes. 2. Put the phone in another room so the mind has fewer places to wander. 3. Before you begin, say silently, 'I offer this listening to Krishna.' 4. Repeat at the same hour tomorrow, and notice whether it gets easier to stay with the words.

A grandmother sits on the edge of her bed at ten at night, too tired to do anything. Her phone is full of news. She picks up the small book she has kept for years and reads two pages aloud, slowly, to no one. The verse speaks to that moment. Step by step: the same hour each day makes the reading a habit instead of a mood. Reading aloud holds the attention that scrolling scatters. Offering the reading to Krishna gives the day one clear direction before sleep. In the text's own terms, this daily listening cleanses and loosens the hold of action's results. Ordinary experience confirms only a small part of this: a calm, repeated routine before bed leaves a person steadier than a restless one. The verse does not promise that the day's worries vanish, that illness or grief lift, or that reading replaces a doctor when she is unwell. Its promise concerns bondage, as the text teaches it, not comfort that evening.
