Feigning a slip of the tongue, he calls out another's name, then bows in shame. Your lotus foot strikes your husband on the forehead. Kama, Shiva's enemy, laughs aloud in the anklets' tinkle, the long-buried thorn now pulled from Shiva.

The poet pictures a quarrel between lovers. Shiva pretends to slip and says another name in place of hers. The word for this is gotraskhalana, a stumble over a name, and the verse calls the slip feigned. Embarrassed, he bows low, and she kicks his forehead with her lotus foot. The poet gives the anklets a voice. They ring, and the ring is read as the laughter of Kama, the god of desire, whom the Shiva of the old story once burned to ash. Kama is named here as Shiva's enemy. The burning is called a thorn that stayed lodged in Shiva's heart (antaḥśalya). A kick from her foot pulls it out, and Kama, long wronged, laughs in the tinkling bells. The teaching is about her foot. It can strike the Lord of the world, and in doing so it settles an old score. The poet praises her as the one before whom even Shiva bows, and shows her feet as strong enough to reach his head. The commentators read Shiva's feigned slip as play. He lets himself be struck, and a blow from her counts as a favour. The poet asks nothing here. He looks at her foot and describes what it can do.

A child leaps into a parent's arms and knocks the grown man's hat off. He laughs, and the old grudge between them is gone. The strong one lets himself be struck by the beloved one, and the blow ends the quarrel. Shiva's bowed forehead is that man, and her foot is the child's small, bold hand.
