To one free of these faults, who honors the wise, who is dear, good and clean of heart, this should be told. Let it be told also to women and to servants, wherever devotion is. One who longs to know, and has understood this, has nothing further left to know. One who has drunk the nectar that does not die has nothing further left to drink.

Two ideas sit together here. The first is who may be told. "These faults" are the ones Krishna named just before: vanity, unbelief, deceit, unwillingness to listen, lack of devotion, rudeness. The listener should be free of them. Krishna also says the listener should be brahmanya, one turned with respect toward the wise and the holy (the word comes from brahman, the sacred). The listener should be dear to the teacher, sadhu (good), and shuchi (clean of heart). Then he adds that the teaching also goes to women and to shudras, the working servants of the old social order, wherever bhakti is. Bhakti is loving devotion, from bhaj, to share in. So the one real test is the heart, not birth or learning. The second idea is completeness. A jijnasu, one who wants to know (from jna, to know), finds nothing more to ask once this is understood. Krishna compares it to amrita, the nectar of not-dying (a-mrita, not dead). Nobody who has drunk it goes looking for another cup. This answers Uddhava's fear that something is still missing. Krishna tells him that nothing is, and that the teaching should be handed only to those who can take it in. It asks Uddhava to be careful about whom he tells, and to trust that he has been given the whole.

A traveler walks all day in heat, reaches a well, and drinks until the thirst is truly gone. He does not check the next village for water or carry a map of other wells. The well is the teaching Krishna has given, and the quiet after drinking is what "nothing further left to know" describes.

1. Tonight, choose one thing you have been reading, searching or asking about for a long time, such as advice, a podcast or a book on how to live. 2. Sit for five minutes and write down what you already know from it, in your own words. 3. Ask yourself whether anything on that page is still untried. Put down the search for one week and live by what you wrote. 4. Before you share a teaching with anyone, ask whether they actually want it.

A man stands in a bookshop aisle holding a sixth book on calm. Five more sit unread at home. He reads the back cover, feels a small lift of hope, and buys it. This verse speaks to that moment. Krishna's teaching is that knowing has an end. The question is not whether more can be learned. It is whether what was heard has been drunk. In practice, the man would put the book back and open the notes from the first one. He would find the two or three lines that already moved him, and he would act on one of them that evening. The other half of the verse, about who is told, matches ordinary experience: advice lands in a listener who is ready and bounces off one who is not. The verse does not promise that one understanding ends every doubt, or that the man will never feel restless again. It does not replace a doctor if the restlessness is really anxiety or sleeplessness that will not lift. It also says nothing about reading itself being wrong.
