Whatever thing exists anywhere, real or unreal, O Soul of all, the power in all of it is you. What praise is left to offer then? You are the one by whom the maker of the world, who also protects the world and devours it at the end, was brought under the sway of sleep. Who, then, is fit to praise you here?

Brahma is praising the Goddess, and in the retelling Medhas gives his words as he spoke them. Two Sanskrit words carry the verse. Shakti is power, from shak, to be able. Nidra is sleep. Brahma begins with everything: any object, anywhere, existing or not existing. He says the power in all of it is hers. A thing's ability to be what it is comes from her. Then he asks what praise could be left, since every word of praise already names something she is the power of. Next he points to Vishnu. Vishnu is the one who creates the world, keeps it safe and takes it back in. Yet he lies in deep sleep, brought there by her. Brahma draws the conclusion himself: if the greatest of the gods is held by her, no one is placed to praise her fully. The question behind it is why Brahma, who is afraid of the two demons, turns to her at all. His answer is that nothing is outside her power, even Vishnu's waking and sleeping. The text teaches that she is the Mahamaya the king and merchant asked about. Praise here is honest speech about a limit. It asks the listener to see that their own understanding stops somewhere, and that she is what lies beyond that point. Bhaskararaya's Guptavati is among the commentaries that read her as the power behind every deity.

A lamp shines on every object in a room, and each object is seen only by that light. If someone tries to describe the lamp, they must use things the lamp has already lit. In the same way, Brahma finds every word of praise already inside her power.
