Meaning · English
In only a few days, O king, you will win back your own kingdom. You will strike down your enemies, and it will not slip from you there. Then, after you die, you will be born again from the god Vivasvat, the Sun, and on earth you will be a Manu named Savarnika.
The Goddess answers the king's request in three steps. Three words carry it. Svam rajyam means one's own kingdom. It is the very throne he lost, not a substitute. Askhalita comes from skhal, to stumble or slip. The Goddess promises a rule that does not slip. That matters because the king had asked for exactly this: a kingdom that does not fall away from him in another life. Vivasvat is the Sun, so the second step is a rebirth from the Sun. The Goddess says that after this life ends, the king is born again in the Sun's line. Manu is the name for the ruler who holds the human order through one age of the world. Savarnika, or Savarni, is the particular Manu he will become. The clauses run in order: a short time, then the kingdom, then enemies struck down, then steadiness, then death, then rebirth, then the title of Manu. The Goddess gives the earthly wish first and the larger destiny after it. The promise comes here because she had offered each of them a boon in 13.10. The king asked for a kingdom, and this is her reply to him. It asks nothing of the listener except to notice that she answers the request as it was made, and then adds more.
A table has one short leg, and every touch makes it rock. A carpenter trims and fits the leg until the table stands square and quiet. The king's old throne was like the rocking table. The Goddess promises it back with the fault mended, so it stays steady.
